What is WebUpdate?

Heard of Windows Update – the online extension of Windows that helps you to get the most recent updates and fixes for your computer via your Internet? WebUpdate, too, is such a built-in tool, which, automatically, downloads and installs the latest patch files / updates from our Web Server through the Internet. The tool auto-detects the updates that are necessary for your FACT or PERKS installation and then, updates the current installation with the latest patch files.

Who will benefit from the WebUpdate?

All licensed users of FACT and PERKS - with Internet Connection – will benefit from the WebUpdate.

What will be the benefits from the WebUpdate?

Thanks to the WebUpdate, the users of FACT & PERKS will no more need the Product CD-ROM, containing the latest patch files and updates, and then run setup on the current installation again to update their installations.. If you are a licensed user, and have an Internet connection, then you can get the latest updates at any point of time. This means huge savings of time, effort and money. What it means is: you, now, have a smoother and more efficient way of updating your FACT or PERKS installation.

Is Internet Connection necessary for running WebUpdate?

Yes, the computer - on which the WebUpdate is being run – should have an uninterrupted Internet Connection.

Do you need File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Rights for running WebUpdate?

Yes, you need FTP Rights for running WebUpdate.

How do you run FACT or PERKS WebUpdate?

For FACT:

Select
the Programs / FACT / WebUpdate option from the Start menu to run FACT WebUpdate. To run WebUpdate from a Workstation, select the Programs / FACT Workstation / WebUpdate option from the Start menu.

If the Internet Connection is lost (interrupted), will WebUpdate take care?

Yes, it will take care of this scenario. Let us consider an example. Suppose that, WebUpdate needs to download (and install) six files to update your existing FACT installation, and after downloading four files, your Internet connection is lost. Under such circumstances, upon running WebUpdate the next time, the tool will attempt to first install the four downloaded files, and then, download the fifth and the sixth file.

How much time will it take to complete the WebUpdate process?

It primarily depends on three factors, viz.

(a) speed of your Internet Connection

(b) periodicity at which the WebUpdate is run

(c) size of the patch files to be downloaded through WebUpdate

Can I set the time interval after which the WebUpdate will get cancelled, if there is no activity for a certain time period?

Yes. You can do so. Just specify the seconds within the Cancel WebUpdate if there is no activity for <…> seconds segment on the FACT WebUpdate window. By default, the time interval is 60 seconds, though you can set it anywhere between 1 and 1800.

What do the fields "Last Installed Update", "Last Downloaded Update", and "Updates downloaded but not installed" indicate in the WebUpdate window?

(a) Last Installed Update means: the identifier (ID) till which the current FACT or PERKS installation has been updated.

(b) Last Downloaded Update means: the identifier (ID) till which the download has been done.

(c) Updates downloaded but not installed means: the number of updates, which have been downloaded, but have not been installed.

Is it necessary that, while running WebUpdate on a Network workstation in a multi-user system, all other workstations should quit from FACT or PERKS? Does it apply to Single User version of the products too?

No. You can continue with your normal operations in FACT or PERKS, while the WebUpdate is downloading the files. However, once the download is complete, installation of the downloaded updates will not be possible with users logged on to FACT or PERKS from different Network Nodes. The same scenario applies for single user installations.

You have run WebUpdate, and downloaded the Updates on one Network Node. FACT is currently running on a Network Node. You are running WebUpdate on a Node, as the following message is displayed:

" Installation of downloaded updates failed since some users are logged on to FACT. Installation of the updates needs that no users should use FACT at the time of Update. If you are sure that no users are running FACT and you are still seeing this message then try running the System Reset utility and then run WebUpdate again. WebUpdate has stored the updates locally and will automatically attempt to install the updates the next time it is run, provided no users are using FACT at that time. "

What should you do?

All the users (including you) should exit from FACT at their respective Network Nodes. Then, close the WebUpdate, and start it, again, on one Network Node. The System will, automatically, update the downloaded (but not yet installed) files.

What do the legends: 'No of Updates available', 'Current File', and 'Overall' indicate in the WebUpdate window?

(a) No of Updates available means: number of updates / files available on our Web Server as of now.

(b) Current File indicates: the progress of the current file being downloaded.

(c) Overall indicates: the overall progress of the files being downloaded.

Is it necessary that, the Dongle (Hardware Key) remains connected while running WebUpdate?

Yes, the Dongle should remain connected.

What does the message: "This system already has all the latest updates installed" indicate?

The message indicates that, your FACT installation is updated with the latest patch file.
